Just a spoon full of sugar

I LOVE sugar. I would have dessert for dinner every night if i could. In fact, sometimes knowing that I have a little treat at home becomes the highlight of my day and my meals just don't seem complete unless I finish them
off with some sugar.

Over the past few months I have tried to limit my ammount of sugar intake and have felt really good. However, this weekend we went to a dinner party and I made an Apple and Cinnamon cake plus Vanilla cupcakes and brought the left overs home. Since then I have had a slice of cake or cupcake every night! Even though I am eating it in moderation my body is craving the sugar like never before and only now am I realizing the effect it has on my body. I have this "junky" mentality that has kicked in " I want cake... I want cake".. you get the idea.

I know this can't be good for me, and my husband is always telling me to stop so, I am finally taking the plunge and am giving up processed sugar  till at least the end of the school term. I know it won't be easy- today is only Day one and all I keep thinking about is cookies!

Anyone done this before? Do you have any tips on giving up the extra sugar? Want to join me?

The Hunger Games

I have been sick since Wednesday with a cold and even though I took half a day on Friday- i still ended up doing way too much instead of resting.

So today- I stayed in ALL day and decided to start reading The Hunger Games that i brought from the Book Depository last month. My good friend Erin told me to read it back in 2009, and i know i should- as an English teacher-  read more Young adult literature.  She raved about this series and said my kids would love it but I thought nothing could match the " Twilight" fever.

But, once I started reading I could not put it down and finished the whole thing before my hubby made it home from church.  I found myself gasping out loud, laughing out loud, saying " No-are you kidding me!"- I just couldn't help myself! I wouldn't hesitate to suggest the book to anyone- however, the entire concept and violence might be disturbing for some. The book is on America's 100 banned books list but I am still going to try and convince my HOD to buy a class set as I think the kids will love it. YOU should read it to!
